Egor enters the Twilight

Egor, a twelve-year-old boy, first enters the Twilight world during a terrifying encounter with vampires, an event that irrevocably changes his understanding of reality and reveals his latent powers as an Other. This moment marks his transition from an ordinary human child to a being caught between the forces of Light and Darkness, setting the stage for his future role in the conflict between the Night Watch and the Day Watch.

The Lure and the Attack

Egor's ordeal begins on a cold Moscow night as he returns home from the swimming pool. He feels an inexplicable, alluring music that draws him away from the safety of the main avenue into a dark alley. There, he is confronted by two vampires—a young man and a woman—who use the Call to paralyze his will. The woman, with her black, magnetic eyes, commands him to approach, and Egor, despite his terror, finds himself unable to resist. He is on the verge of being bitten when a third figure, Anton Gorodetsky of the Night Watch, intervenes, killing the male vampire and driving the female away. This violent rescue is Egor's first direct encounter with the supernatural world that exists alongside his own.

The First Crossing into the Twilight

Later, while hiding in his apartment, Egor's fear and heightened senses trigger an involuntary entry into the Twilight. When Anton and his owl partner, Olga, enter his home through this shadowy dimension, Egor senses their presence. In a panic, he instinctively summons his shadow and steps into the Twilight himself, collapsing onto the floor. He sees Anton, who appears out of nowhere in the now-gray, silent room. This spontaneous crossing is a rare and powerful feat, demonstrating that Egor possesses immense, untrained magical potential. Anton realizes that the boy is a potential Other of extraordinary power, a destiny still undefined, and that his choice between Light and Darkness will have significant consequences for the balance of power in Moscow.

The Struggle for Survival and the Price of Power

Egor's first entry into the Twilight is not a controlled act but a desperate, fear-driven plunge. He lacks the strength to maintain his presence in the alien environment, and the Twilight begins to drain his life force, threatening to consume him forever in a state known as a Twilight coma. Anton, realizing the danger, is forced to use a dangerous and painful method to save him: he slashes his own wrist and lets his blood flow into the Twilight, providing a surge of energy that allows both of them to escape back to the human world. This rescue comes at a cost, as Anton's own defenses are weakened, and it underscores the inherent peril of the Twilight for the unprepared. He tells Egor that vampires can legally hunt humans if they have a license, a truth that shatters the boy's remaining sense of security. This revelation, forced upon Anton by the boy's direct questions, pushes Egor further into a state of disillusionment and anger.
